“Working with Romano on NME is one of the highlights of my career. His energy, determination and ability to spot and support good ideas - not to mention have plenty of them himself - were key factors in driving a massive transformation project that put a magazine and brand that was essentially on its knees back on its pedestal as an influential and agenda-setting beacon of the music scene. During Romano’s time as NME MD we built up our biggest ever readership in print and online, achieved record revenues via a creative solutions team that he put in place, delivered the three most successful NME Awards in the events’ history, positively influenced the outcome of a General Election and launched a ton of new events like CineJam and #lifehacks. Not bad for a teenage sandwich seller from south London. If the chance ever came up I’d work with Romano again in a heartbeat.”
